Nichole Urban, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Personal information

Nichole Urban, M.D. was raised in Richmond, Michigan and graduated cum laude from Central Michigan University in 2001. She then received a post-graduate degree at Wayne State University, completing her Masters of Basic Medical Science in 2003. Immediately thereafter, she attended the Wayne State University School of Medicine and received her medical degree in 2007.

She then went on to complete her general surgery residency from 2007-2013 at the Corewell Hosptial - Royal Oak, Michigan. During this time she also completed a one-year surgical research fellowship. She was successful enough during her research time that she was able to present her works at many prestigious conferences, including the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the Detroit Surgical Association, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

She has successfully completed all of the criteria set forth by the American Board of Surgery and is board certified.

Dr. Urban joined Premier Surgical Specialists in August of 2013 immediately after completing her surgical residency. Her current scope of practice includes gastrointestinal surgery, gastrointestinal cancers, thyroid and other endocrine surgery, and a range of laparoscopic procedures such as gallbladder removal, appendectomy, inguinal and ventral hernia repairs, and colectomy. She is well trained on the latest and best general surgical procedures and technology. This includes verification of her laparoscopic skills by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). She also helps staff the Corewell Wound Treatment Center and is well experienced in treating all types of wounds.

She has been active in professional societies. Her memberships include the following: American College of Surgeons; the Detroit Surgical Association; the Central Michigan University Alumni Association.

In addition, she has been an active member of the medical staff at Corewell Hospital. She has served on the Surgical Quality Assessment Committee and the Corporate CPR Committee. She has been very active in didactic teaching and lecturing for residents as well as medical students.

Dr. Urban is on staff at Corewell Hospital in Troy and St Joseph Mercy Oakland. She is currently Medical Director of General Surgery at Corewell Hospital since May 2022.
